Commission Sink
In July Hayley was asked to make a square sink for dragon furniture (www.dragonfurniture.co.uk) for their stand at the Royal Welsh show, the design was to have a fish theme and incorporate mainly blues and greens, and some fish!
The finished design (pictured here prior to having its sink hole cut) is 12 mm thick (that’s pretty heavy in glass terms, and you definitely wouldn’t want to be smacked across the head with it!) of fused and slumped glass to comply with Health and Safety standards.
The finished piece was installed in a very happy customers bathroom on an oak plinth, a similar version of this sink can be seen at the Silent Voices gallery, Hay-on-Wye.
Private House Commission
Hayleys most recent commission was for a private house in Wales, A Lazy Susan square bowl, the design was to be based on Chocolate brown, rich cream and postbox red, and be 'child, dog, and dinner party proof'.
The client always receives samples of glass colours prior to the start of work.
Once the colours were chosen, Hayley discussed ideas and themes with the client, and most importantly the decor in which the finished piece was to sit. In this case a light-filled modern home, decorated in Cream, with Dark furniture and red accents. The client then emailed Hayley some photos.
From these photos she was able to pick up decorative points such as red rectangles on the cushions, 6 leather chairs around the kitchen table and the woodwork on the cream doors, and encompass them into the design, to complement this 6 coasters were made, with safety 'feet' so as not to damage or slip on the table.
Glass Panels
A Glass panel can be made to your own design/colour scheme, please phone for details.
I endeavour to be a little bit different and use marble, granite, wood and slate in my designs, as well as metal, gold silver and copper leaf and foils. Basically if it can withstand the heat of the kiln i'll try and use it.
You can see some of my glass panels in the gallery »
